Without fail I approach spring and summer with trepidation. I will be honest and ever since I became involved in animal welfare, “kitten season” was never a time of the year I looked forward to. February has become my favorite month. Unfortunately, we do have “kitten season”.  Some parts of the country have it longer than others. The summer is when we get lost to rescue vs the focused high volume spay/neuter efforts that we need to have in place to be able to reduce the community cat populations. Strategy is so important during the summer to stay the course and continue to provide access to as much spay/neuter as possible in your community. When I was involved in the day to running of an organization I would use the components of the Community Cat Pyramid to keep me “grounded” in a strategic direction. In the summer please continue to focus on the base of the pyramid helping support the community and their cats/kittens.  Don’t lose your way.
