What’s New for Community Cats in 2025

As we conclude another year, I want to take a moment to thank everyone who has been part of our community and turning your passion for cats into action. Your commitment to the welfare of community cats has been invaluable. In 2025, we’ll concentrate on refining strategies that enable each of us to make a meaningful impact on the lives of community cats. What’s new for community cats in 2025? We have so much this year to help you help them!

The Comprehensive Community Cat Program Management course at University of the Pacific returns in 2025 after a highly praised debut! Ideal for advocates at all levels, this course is a must. Our January session just started, but keep an eye out when we announce the remaining 2025 dates.

This year, we are excited to offer certification for all our workshops, building upon the success of our popular TNR Certification Workshops. This means you can now earn certificates in areas like drop trapping, colony caretaking, surrender prevention, and more. Each certification registration includes access to live events, special Q&A sessions, and immediate access to recordings after the event. Best of all, these workshops are priced at just $10 each.

For those aiming to maximize their learning, the 2025 Community Cats Pass grants unlimited access to all workshops and conferences, eliminating additional costs. These certifications are designed to enhance your skills and showcase your expertise in community cat advocacy. They offer a structured path to learn essential techniques needed to make a significant impact in your community. By participating, you’re contributing to the larger mission of improving the welfare of community cats everywhere.

Our commitment to providing accessible and affordable educational opportunities remains unchanged. While our certification workshops are $10 each, those who prefer the information without earning a certificate or accessing live event perks will still have the option to view session recordings of select previous workshops on our YouTube Channel or via the podcast.

What’s New for Community Cats in 2025: One- and Two-Day Events

We are also excited to welcome you to our 2025 lineup of one- and two-day events, including the Online Cat Conference, Online Kitten Conference, United Spay Alliance Conference, Online Behavior Day, Online Feline Leukemia Day, and a very special event with an in-depth look at disaster response for the wildfire in Maui, featuring presentations from animal welfare professionals who were directly involved in the Maui wildfire recovery. Remember, Community Cats Passholders can access all these informative conferences, with automatic enrollment and recordings available for any missed events.

In addition to our collaborations with Neighborhood Cats and the National Kitten Coalition, we are thrilled to provide you with four free webinars in partnership with United Spay Alliance.

For those interested in surrender prevention, join Dr. Rachel Geller of All Cats All the Time for our Surrender Prevention Certification Workshops. Three sessions are planned for 2025, starting with the first on January 15, 2025, at 2:00 PM ET—click here to register.

Our Return-to-Home Certification Workshops focus on reuniting stray cats with their owners, challenging the misconception that all stray cats are abandoned. Led by Corinne Bourgoin of the MSPCA, these workshops offer practical strategies to help shelters support lost cat owners and increase successful reunions without straining resources. Three sessions are planned for 2025, starting with the first on March 12, 2025, at 2:00 PM ET—click here to register.

We believe that everyone passionate about helping cats should have access to the latest information and skills. Thanks to Maddie’s Fund and other generous donors, we’re able to offer free registrations to many of our virtual conferences and workshops, including our Surrender Prevention Certification and Return-to-Home Certification Workshops. If you’re eager to learn but short on funds, apply for a scholarship to attend these events at no cost.

Turning Passion Into Action: Reflections, Challenges & the Future of Community Cat Care Copy link As 2025 comes to a close, I’m taking a moment to reflect on where we’ve been, where we’re going, and the power of leadership in the community cat world. After over 30 years of working in cat welfare—and nearly a decade hosting the Community Cats Podcast—I’m incredibly proud of how far we’ve come. But we’re not done yet. Today, I want to talk about the heart of what we do, the people who make it happen, and what lies ahead in 2026 as we transition into a new chapter: Community Cats Central.

Why Accessibility Matters in Cat Care: Rethinking the Litter Box
When we think about litter boxes, the conversation usually revolves around the cats themselves: where they like their boxes placed, how often they need cleaning, or what type of litter they prefer. But there’s an overlooked side of the story—the people who care for those cats. For many cat lovers, bending, lifting, and crouching to scoop or clean the litter box isn’t a small task. It’s a real barrier.
